There’s a particular kind of exhale that happens when you walk into Patched Works. The colors catch you first — rows and rows of fabric that feel like someone organized a sunset. Then the warmth of the room settles in, and somewhere between the cutting table and the first hello, the rest of the day starts to fall away.

That’s what we’ve been building since 2006, when I took over this shop from the legendary Trudie Hughes right here in downtown Elm Grove, Wisconsin. Not just a fabric store. Though the fabric alone is worth the trip.

I’m Julie Karasek, and I believe quilting helps people create something tangible in this digital world.

Not in a small way. In a real, tangible way. It gives your hands something beautiful to do. It gives your mind somewhere peaceful to land. And it gives you a community of people who understand why you have seventeen shades of blue in your stash and will never once judge you for it.

At Patched Works, we carry thousands of bolts of carefully curated fabric: premium quilting collections, precuts, kits, and seasonal favorites chosen because they make you want to create. Our team of passionate makers is here to help you find the perfect color story, work through a tricky pattern, or simply talk through what you’re imagining.

But honestly? The fabric is just the beginning.

What we’re really offering is the chance to slow down. To make something with your hands. To be part of a community that celebrates every stitch — the ones that turn out perfectly and the ones you have to seam-rip twice.
